As another stepping stone in sport education, NOC SL has initiated a new trend of Olympic Values Education Program – OVEP Debater. The OVEP Debater was introduced by the NOC SL in 2017 for the first time in the history of the Olympic Education in the globe. The whole session was televised. The OVEP is not only emphasizing the importance of soft skill in our adolescents, but it is also providing a medium to promote sports involvement and developing insight into Olympism as a lifelong philosophy. The program is mainly created to encourage mass participation to expand opportunities for sport and to create what Pierre de Coubertin called “the Democracy of Youth” rather than limiting to completive nature of sport and physical exertion.
Through a selection process, students ranging from 7 to 20 years of age were chosen to debate on Olympic Values: Joy of Effort, Fair Play, Respect for Others, Pursuit of Excellence, and Balance between Body, Will, and Mind. This debate competition encourages students to research, learn and develop opinions, arguments, and advocate spreading of Olympic Values. The pilot program is successfully done and it will continue as an annual academic program by the NOC SL in future.
